The
Teacher of English to Speakers of Spanish-English
as a Foreign Language course is a 75+ hour program
designed for those who want to teach English as
a Foreign language in Latin America and the rest
of the world.
The certificate course contains standard elements
of a complete TEFL (Teacher of English as a Foreign
Language) program, but is enhanced to serve the
Latin American region.
The course is broken into two components: Theory
and Practical. The Theory component consists of
40 hours in-class study. The Practical component
consists of 10-20 hours of instructor-assessed student
teaching. A minimum 25 additional hours consist
of self-study on grammar presentation, group project
work, and lesson planning. Both components are further
outlined below.
Important!!!
The TEFL course practical component is unlike
any other certificate course. Here, you
will be learning and practice teaching with
real EFL students, not your peers,
not ESL groups, but Mexican and Latin American
students enrolled in actual English classes
through Hamer Sharp, a language school that
teaches American and British English. At
Teachers Latin America, we know what potential
employers want to see, so we take you directly
to them, to learn how to to teach their
students, not other English speakers.
Note:
The TEFL program details below are more
thoroughly detailed in the TEFL Program
Information Kit. This is a Word document
you can download from the More Information
Menu on your left or by clicking here.

TESS-EFL
Practical Teaching Component
|
The
Practical component allows the TEFL student
to apply their skills learned in the Theory
component to a real classroom. you will
be observing and teaching Mexican EFL students
enrolled in English classes at Hamer Sharp,
our Mexico City affiliate language center.
For
the first week (classes 1-5) TEFL students
will observe 2 one-hour classes each day,
while completing assignments. The observed
classes vary in size, student age, and level
of proficiency. On Day 5, TEFL students
will work in unique class covering topics
such as program development, local culture,
promotional activites, and teacher/student
conferrences. Day 5 brings TEFL students
in contact with working EFL teachers.
In
the second week (classes 6-10) TEFL students
will prepare and deliver 2 classes of 55
minutes each. TEFL students will be assigned
varying class sizes, student ages, and levels
of proficiency. Each prepared class will
be directly related to Theoretical components
studied that day.
The
Practical component final mark equals 25% of the
final course grade.
